No Stranger To Our Past

Well she came to me a cryin’ mess,
I thought I’d at least try my best,
to console the girl who taught me about love.

But little did I know, it was all a show.
She acted her part, and played the role,
of someone I’d hurt a few long years ago.

Said everything had been just fine,
’til I had come into her life.
Tryin’ to say it was I who did her wrong.

So I stopped her there, stood up outta my chair,
and said honey don’t you know…

I’m no stranger to our past,
it was you who wronged me last.
So don’t you come cryin’ to me.
You left my heart in pieces,
Now I’m tryin’ to mend the creases,
So just go off and let this man be.

Well it calmed her down a little,
when the band started up the fiddle.
I sat back down and offered her a drink.
She downed that whiskey with no chaser,
started sayin’ I’d never replace her,
now honey is that really what you think?

It was you who ran off and left me,
cause my dreams were just too heavy,
for a woman to remain by my side.
Now I don’t know about all that,
Cause there’s a girl who likes my cowboy hat,
and says she’ll be with me ’til the day I die.

Darlin’ don’t you know by now…

I’m no stranger to our past,
it was you who wronged me last.
So don’t you come cryin’ to me.
You left my heart in pieces,
Now I’m tryin’ to mend the creases,
So just go off and let this man be.

I’ve never had to duck so fast,
to avoid a flyin’ whiskey glass.
Now woman what’s the matter with you?
It flew right on by over my head,
hit my newfound love instead.
Now I’m stuck in this bar playin’ the blues.

Cause my old love killed my new one dead,
and now I’m stuck sharin’ a bed,
with the woman who had run out on me!
But now each time she starts to make a fuss,
about me singin’ the blues too much,

I just say honey you should know…

I’m no stranger to our past,
it was you who wronged me last.
So don’t you come cryin’ to me.
You left my heart in pieces,
Now I’m tryin’ to mend the creases,
So just shut up and let this cowboy be.
